What it takes to get started:
|
| If you are crafty, this may be a fun way for you to easily manufacture your own card line. There are couple of things that come to mind if you are considering this particular category. First of all, you are NOT going to knock off Hallmark. They are too big and too powerful to even think about. However there are several niche markets that you can enter and do quite well. The key is to have a good plan and good organization. |
| Organize If you carry cards that are unique and different, you will sell them. Accenting cards with items that you cannot find in the stores are a great idea. (see pics below) The key is to make 10 to 20 designs that like, then lay those designs out card by card and take a picture of each. Then make a recipe card for each one so you know what pieces you need to build that card. Put each one of these in its own box so that you can tell at a glance how much inventory you have. Having a good digital picture of each is very helpful. You can take samples to vendors and having photos means you do not have to carry everything you own. |
| Setting up a web page for these is fairly easy. You might also consider small retail outfits that would carry your stock. Traditional boutiques are always looking for inventory and will usually give you a good deal on the commission they require. Other stores like postal centers, and hair salons and small businesses that have just opened always have room to carry your inventory as well. These can be a good place to have stock available. |
