CNC

CNCSo what the heck is CNC?  CNC stands for computer numerical control.  Basically what you have is a rotary tool (router) that is mounted to an X, Y  and Z axis and all of this is mounted on a fixed table top.  A computer controls the movement along the X,Y and Z axis according to the file that you program into the computer.  The software allows you to make some of the most amazing designs.  Basically if you can draw it, you can cut it on a CNC.  Boat builders love cnc because it allows them to build curves and complex shapes. CNC can be used in just about any material, not just wood.

Here are some of the categories that a shop bot shines at creating.  these categories are straight from their website and will give you some great ideas:

  • woodworking

  • instruments
  • manufacturing
  • construction
  • remodeling

The only limitation is your imagination.
