The ebook concept is new to many, and most people think that it is too good to be true. I mean, there are very few markets where you can create your finished product for almost nothing, sell it over and over again with no production or inventory costs, and keep 100% of the profits. But that is exactly what happens each and every day in the ebook world.

So let’s look and see exactly what it will cost to start selling your ebook quickly.

1. Write your ebook

What you need for this is a PC, a word processor, and an Internet connection. Since you are reading this article, chances are pretty good that you have all of these already. Creating your ebook really is as simple as sitting down and typing your ebook in a word processor.

2. Create a cover

An eye-catching cover helps sell your ebook, although I have seen some people sell hundreds of ebooks without ever creating a cover. You can create your own cover without much trouble at all. If you have any computer graphics experience, this will be simple. If not, basic computer graphics are not terribly hard to create and there are free tools that will do the trick. Otherwise, you can buy cover generators that will help you out for less than $40.

3. Convert your ebook to a PDF

A PDF is the most popular ebook format. A PDF allows you to “freeze” the format of your ebook so that it cannot be edited, and it also shrinks the file size of your ebook. There are plenty of free PDF converters on the market. One of my favorites is called CutePDF.

4. Create a sales page

To do this, you will need a server to host your website and a URL for people to get to your website. Altogether this will cost less than $15 a month. You will need to create an opt-in page to get subscriptions to your email list and a sales page to sell your ebook.

5. Get an Autoresponder

If you want to make money online, it is almost required that you have an email list unless you just get thousands of visitors a day to your website. An autorepsonder is a very simple program that lets you send automated emails to your subscribers on a set schedule. There are free autoresponders you can use, but you really don’t want to cut costs here. A good autoresponder will cost anywhere from $20 – $50 a month.

Learning how to create an ebook doesn’t need to be hard. Here are five simple steps you can follow to make your ebook.

1.Target Your Audience

The first step in learning how to create an ebook is to target your audience. Who is your niche? Who is your market? Before you create an ebook you need to answer these questions.

For some people, deciding what to write is the hard part, but it doesn’t have to be. Think about hobbies, both your own and others, as well as what problems other people have. What do you know that could help people solve problems? People are always looking for advice on how to make money and how to save money. Could you write a guide telling them how to make money from their hobbies?

2.Research and Plan

Chances are, you won’t be able to sit down and create an ebook from the top of your head. Even if it’s a topic you’re familiar with, you’ll want to research and plan before you get started. One simple way to do this is to write down the questions that your market has about the subject. You might want to read forums where they hang out and read the same magazines they read.

3.Write Your Ebook

Now that you have your questions, you can write your ebook. It doesn’t matter whether or not you consider yourself a great writer. You do not have to write 100-plus pages and you don’t need to write perfect prose. Simply answer the questions the same way you would if you were writing a letter with advice to your friend. Let your personality shine through.

If you aren’t an expert in the subject, consider finding someone who is and interview them for your guide. This is a great way to create an ebook on any subject.

4.Convert to PDF

Now that you have your ebook written, let a few friends read it. Proofread it, but don’t worry about catching every mistake. Even published books may have errors.

Once you’re happy with the product, it’s time to convert it into PDF. There are some programs that will do this free with just a click of the button. One choice you have is Open Office, which is a free program similar to Microsoft Office. You can convert Open Office writer documents into PDFs in one step.

5.Upload it on Your Site

Whether you plan to sell your ebook or give it away for free, you need to upload it onto your website so that you can share it with others. You’ll need a website host an FTP program. There are many hosts to choose from, and some cost less than $10 a month. A free FTP program that you can use to upload your ebook onto your site is FileZilla.

If you follow these five simple steps, you can create an ebook in very little time. Soon these steps will become second nature as you create your ebooks.

If you are going to create a PDF ebook, you are going to need a software program to help you do this. This article does two things. First, the article helps the beginner understand the Adobe software package and how it relates to ebooks. Second, it provides a free alternative for creating your own PDFs. Since this was my first attempt at creating a PDF, this article was written for a beginner, by a beginner.

This is my general understanding of Adobe and how this company relates to PDF ebooks.

Adobe Systems created the portable document format (PDF) in 1993.

Adobe Acrobat is a family of computer programs created by Adobe Systems. According to Wikipedia, they were “designed to view, create, manipulate and manage files in Adobe’s portable document format (PDF)”.

Adobe Reader is one of the programs within the Adobe Acrobat family. You can download Adobe Reader for free. This software is used to view and print PDF ebooks.

Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard is the software package needed to create PDF files. At the time of this writing this package cost $299.00. (You can also use Pro $449.00 or Pro Extended $699.00).

In summary, if you would like to read PDF ebooks you can download for free, Adobe Reader. If you would like to create PDF ebooks as well, then you need to purchase one of Adobes software packages, such as Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard.

Since I know that I would like to create PDF files, I have decided that I will need a software package to do this. I do not however, want to spend $299.00 to create my first PDF ebook. Adobe looks like a great product and a package that I may buy in the future, but for my first project, I would like to do this as simply and as cheaply as possible.

OpenOffice

I recently found out about a product called OpenOffice, similar to Microsoft Office. This is free software which can be downloaded at openoffice.org. I found this product via a “You Tube” video. After watching the video, I visited the website at instantebookpublishing.com. The website provides information about ebooks and includes a copy of the video mentioned above. It’s a great nine minute video that walks you through creating your first PDF with OpenOffice.

I have recently put this product to the test. I downloaded the software from OpenOffice and used it to create my first PDF ebook. Creating the ebook took less than an hour following the simple instructions from the video. Again, this was my first PDF and it took less than an hour.

The PDF included internal links and one external link. The internal links allowed me to jump from a table of contents directly to the chapter I wanted to read. The external link was simply a link to my website. Creating these links were very easy and the video shows you how.

So, I was able to create a PDF ebook at no cost by using the following:
1) Open Office – the word processor allows me to create PDF files.
2) instantebookpublishing.com – nine minute video showing how to use OpenOffice to create a PDF.
3) Adobe Reader – allows me to read the ebook (even though not created with Adobe).

From start to finish, it took less than two hours.

At this point, my PDF ebook is very basic, but since it took me only a couple of hours and I learned a great deal, I am very happy with my results. I hope you have the same success.

That’s how many times I’ve been asked “Where can I find hot product ideas to write about in my next eBook?”

Really. I’ve been keeping count. )

OK, so it’s probably not quite that many times, but you get the idea.

I get asked that question a LOT.

And so, I’ve decided to share my favorite “idea hangouts”.  That’s right …  “idea hangouts.” It’s been my experience that there are specific places where hot product ideas are always gathered. I call them “idea hangouts.”

One of the “idea hangouts” that I’ve identified is Amazon.com.

Amazon.com is the web’s largest bookstore.

It’s also a community center for new product ideas. I use it as one of my top brainstorming resources. Again and again I visit this site to come up with topics to write about.

What makes Amazon.com so useful as a research tool for getting new ideas is their searchable database of books. There are thousands of great ideas lurking in there if you just know how to use it.

And that’s what I’m here for. )

I’m going to show you how to find hot product ideas with Amazon.com anytime you want.

It’s really a matter of three simple steps …

STEP 01 : >>> Decide Upon A Broad Category. When brainstorming ideas, you must begin with a broad category to work with. Some examples might be: weight loss, marketing, dating, travel, baseball.

So, you need that ahead of time. Figure out a broad subject that you know is popular (I.E. You know that losing weight is ALWAYS going to be a popular subject, as is “making money.”).

As an example for this article, I’m going to choose GOLF.

STEP 02 : >>> Search Amazon’s Database. After picking your broad topic to research, it’s time to visit Amazon.com.

Specifically, you’re going to SEARCH their database of books they are selling.

Upon arriving at their site, locate their SEARCH form. At the time of this writing, it was in the upper left hand corner of their main page. Pull the menu down and select BOOKS from the options.

In the space provided, type in whatever broad category you chose. I’d type in “Golf”. (You don’t need quotation marks)

If you did indeed start with a broad category, then hundreds (or even thousands) of book listings should appear as a result of the search.

STEP 03 : >>> Brainstorm Ideas From The Listings. Let the brainstorming session begin! Now it’s time to look at the books that are listed and write down as many possible ideas as you can find.

Look for the different TYPES of books written about the subject, identifying different THEMES, STYLES and SUBCATEGORIES.

Let’s look at an example …

When I searched for “Golf”, I was able to immediately spot dozens of great ideas. Here are a handful …

1. Becoming a better golfer. There are many golf books available in this area, covering everything from “A-Z of Golf Shots” to specific topics such as “Improving Your Short Game.” There were lots of different themes from “learning to break 100” to “shaving 10 shots off your score” to “7 shots that will change your golf game forever.”

2. Guides to Golf Courses. Again, we have many different ideas here. Specific golf guides like “Florida golfing”, “golfing in Tennessee” and “golfing the Robert Trent Jones trail” appear, as well as books on “the best golf courses in America,” “best kept secrets: great golf courses you’ve probably never played,” and “golf vacation guides.”

3. Profiting from Golf. More ideas pour in with “opening a golf repair business,” “becoming a golf retailer,” “learning how to caddy” and “buying & selling used golf clubs.” What about “running an online golf auction”, “organizing a golf tournament for profit” or even “writing information products about golf!”

4. Golf and Business. There are millions of dollars in business deals negotiated on the golf course every single year. And there are books available to teach folks how to get it done. “How to negotiate business deals during golf outings,” “Legal golf tax deductions for businesspeople,” and “business seminars and golf: how to mix training and fun for maximum profit” are just a few more ideas worth exploring.

5. Golf Products. My, my, my there are so many ideas floating around in here! Everything ranging from reviews of the latest golf equipment to ratings of golf courses to discounts on golf packages. Resource guides to finding the best deals on golfing products, how to negotiate discounts, and how to find the best products for your specific golf game also come to mind as product ideas.

= 28 Potential Product Ideas

See how easy that was? I found TWENTY-EIGHT potential new product ideas (and there were MANY MORE that I didn’t mention in this article) from a simple brainstorming exercise using ONE “idea hangout.”

There’s got to be a best-seller in that bunch somewhere. And certainly with a little “mix -n- match” I can come up with a hit product with these ideas.

Not bad, eh?
